The meeting started about 15 minutes late due to technical difficulties. I noticed there was a lot of people here and I figured it was for the same reason I was there: Z-18-2025, the Racetrac going in across the street from Bells Ferry Elementary near town center. So it was a surprise when, while going through the cases that had been withdrawn without prejudice (which essentially just means the case is withdrawn but they can bring it back in the future), they said that case Z-18 was a last minute addition. I could tell everyone was a little confused and Chairwoman Cupid explained that this meant that, because of the holidays, the earliest this could come back was in February of 2026. They did do a quick head count of how many people were there in opposition to Z-18 (25! Including myself) then most of them left.
Most of the meeting after that was going through the consent agenda but one item within it had 5 people in opposition so that got moved to the Other Business cases (OB-58-2025). The rest of the meeting went pretty smoothly and straight forward besides two cases: OB-57 and OB-58
OB-57 is a person who wanted to turn a large lot into three houses with a shared drive way. There was opposition based on how dangerous the road is (it’s on Wesley Chapel in north east Cobb) and based on some environmental factors. My personal take is that, while I can’t speak to the environmental side, I definitely don’t think we need to cut down as many trees for density as the plan showed. And the dangerous Wesley Chapel Rd is because it’s road that tries to be an arterial, collector, and local road. Very much a holdover from when less people lived up there. The neighborhoods are completely unconnected outside of Wesley Chapel. I do think the submitter (Trailside Equities LLC) should be able to build, but I do understand the many issues the neighbors have. The verdict was to push it back to the December meeting.
